Moving into a furnished apartment: a cleaning plan before you unpack

Plan cleaning around existing furniture, stocked storage, entry timing and condition documentation when moving into a furnished apartment.

A furnished move-in is not an empty-apartment clean

An apartment that already contains furniture has different access limits from an empty home. Cabinets may be stocked, beds may be made and personal items may remain. Before requesting cleaning, establish what belongs to the property and what can be moved or handled. Describe the rooms as they will be on the day of the visit. A quote based on an empty apartment may not reflect the careful work required around furnishings or the areas that cannot be reached.

Record condition before arranging the work

Look through the property and separate existing damage from areas that need cleaning. Keep your own condition record and follow the move-in process agreed with the owner or manager. Do not assume cleaning will remove scratches, worn finishes or marks whose cause is unknown. If you share photographs with the provider, exclude documents and other private information. State which objects must stay in place and who can answer questions about the supplied furniture or materials.

Check storage and appliance interiors

If you want drawers, cabinets or the refrigerator cleaned inside, confirm that they will be empty or specify what remains. Ask who is responsible for clearing them and what handling is permitted. Existing food, household supplies and another person's belongings should not simply be discarded by the cleaner. List oven interiors, upholstery and bedding as separate requests. The presence of a furnished bed does not establish that laundering linens or treating the mattress is included.

Schedule around the actual handover

Confirm when you receive authorized access and when movers or deliveries will arrive. If building registration or an elevator arrangement is required, coordinate it with management before the appointment. Cleaning is easier to plan when the home is accessible and unpacked boxes are not covering every surface. If you must move in first, identify which rooms will still be available and adjust the scope accordingly. Do not schedule against an expected key handover that has not been confirmed.

Request a room-by-room proposal

Tell JPN which furnishings remain, what storage is empty, which surfaces need care and whether anyone will occupy the apartment during the visit. Ask for included tasks, access limits, total price and any separately quoted additions. Before unpacking, review the agreed areas and raise specific questions promptly. Keep the distinction between cleaning and the property's condition clear: a move-in clean prepares the accessible space for use, but it is not a renovation, inventory audit or guarantee about the previous occupant.
