Cleaning a Greenwich Village walk-up: access, equipment and appointment planning

Prepare a cleaning request for a Greenwich Village walk-up with accurate floor, stair, entry and room-access details.

By Yoshi Nakamura · General Manager, JPN Cleaning Services · Published

Start with the route into your apartment

If your Greenwich Village home is a walk-up, give the floor and describe the access before confirming a cleaning visit. The provider needs to plan for the actual route from the street, not infer it from the neighborhood. Mention separate entrances, internal stairs or a split-level layout. Not every Greenwich Village building is a walk-up, and not every walk-up has the same arrangement. Use the full address and apartment details as the basis of the request.

Make entry instructions complete

Confirm how the cleaner gets through the building entrance and then through the apartment door. A working building code does not necessarily unlock the unit, and a resident's app may not work for an outside visitor. Arrange authorized access with the appropriate person and provide one reachable contact. Share codes privately through the agreed booking channel. Avoid relying on someone noticing the doorbell while on a call or assuming a neighbor can admit an unexpected visitor.

Describe access limits inside the home

Identify narrow areas, elevated storage, heavy furniture and rooms where the team cannot work freely. If you want a surface cleaned behind an object, ask whether movement is included and practical. Do not expect cleaners to lift heavy furniture or improvise access to high areas. For an older or unfamiliar finish, provide the relevant care instructions or ask for that area to be excluded until the material is identified. Appearance alone is not enough to determine a cleaning method.

Allow time for the appointment you actually booked

Coordinate deliveries, contractors and your own schedule so the agreed rooms are available. If a particular room must remain occupied, tell the provider in advance and discuss whether the visit can work around it. A last-minute scope change can affect the plan even when the apartment is small. Ask how arrival, access delays and changes are handled before booking; do not assume a specific waiting allowance or charge from a general article.

Send a useful walk-up brief

A concise request should include the address, floor, stair arrangement, apartment size, bathroom count, condition and priorities. Add the entry method, occupancy constraints and requested extra work. For example, an accessible-floor cleaning request is different from one that also includes emptied cabinets and an oven interior. Contact JPN with those details to confirm service availability and a quote. After confirmation, keep the route and agreed work areas clear so the team can start the planned work.
